Painting with direct light (not to be confused with creations of indirect light), i.e. photography (still or moving) is a relatively recent revolution that has managed us to freeze time, although not thoughts. We can never repeat looking at a photographic object in exactly the same way.

Camera obscura futura and the end of the dinosaurs
These are some of the dinosaurs from the past
Nikkor 2,000mm/f11
Nikkor 6mm/f2.8
Future cameras for professional (and consumer) use will replace most of the glass with processing power.
Smaller lenses will make extremely long telephoto possible and pocketable. And when the focal length is too much to keep the target within the frame there will be an additional ocular capable of showing the surroundings of the subject (just like the ones on telescopes) which will aid both you and the processors.
When it comes to super wide angle swiping combined with processing will do the job. And in an extension we will see both 3d and holographic swiping. Just as how panoramas started with Sony HX1 in 2009.
